Autumn Overture
Saturday, October 3, 2009 Suncreek United Methodist Church, 8:00pm
The Allen Philharmonic welcomes special guest Donnie Ray Albert, Baritone, in a performance of Copland’s Old American Songs, Sets I & II. Additional selections include Rossini’s Semiramide Overture, Handel’s Concerto for Harp in B flat Major, Enesco’s Romanian Rhaphsody#1, and Adagio in G minor for Strings and Organ by Albinoni/Giazotto.
We are honored to partner with Allen Reads, the one-book program under the leadership of the Friends of the Allen Public Library. The book selection for 2009-2010 is The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway. It is a fictional story based on a true event. During the siege of Sarajevo, 22 innocent people were killed by a mortar shell while waiting in a bread line. A cellist in the city chose to honor their memory by playing Albinoni’s Adagio in G minor for 22 days. This concert will also be the kickoff of our Friends of Note’s season-long Family Literacy outreach project.
