Additional Programming:
Cultural Connections: The Allen Philharmonic endeavors to meet a wide variety of concert programming through its partnership with the Allen Public Library. These concerts are performed in the civic auditorium, are approximately 45-60 minutes in length, and are free to the public. Programs slated for this season include:
February 28, 2008: The Allen Philharmonic will highlight the Allen Public Library’s Black History Month programming with a concert performance by the Marian Anderson Quartet. Named in honor of the legendary contralto, Marian Anderson, this String Quartet was the first African-American ensemble in history to win a classical competition, the prestigious Cleveland Quartet Competition in 1991. In 2006 the Quartet received the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award for Excellence in the Arts and Culture from the Congress of Racial Equality. March 13, 2008: Celtic Twilight Join us in a “tip o’ the hat to the old sod” when the Hibernia Irish Dancers of Dallas perform Celtic Twilight. Based on the writings of W. B. Yeats, and adapted for the stage and choreographed by Erin Reid, TCRG, this two-act performance brings an opportunity not to be missed - fantastic Irish music and dance, and stirring literature.
May, 2008: Come explore the culture and musical artistry of Japan as the Allen Philharmonic collaborates with the Japan-America Society of Dallas/Ft. Worth in recognition of Asian-American History month.
