2008-2009 Cultural Connections Concert Series
The Allen Philharmonic endeavors to meet a wide variety of concert programming through its partnership with the City of Allen and the Allen Public Library. These concerts are performed in the civic auditorium located at the library, (the Memorial Day program is performed in the amphitheatre at Joe Farmer Recreation Center) are approximately 45-60 minutes in length, and are free to the public. These programs are selected for the purpose of honoring the cultural diversity of our community while promoting the universal language of music and the arts. This will be the third year for this concert series.
Programs for the 2008-2009 season include:

September 21, 2008Chaski This folk music trio will perform Latin American folk music featuring traditional instruments, colorful costumes, cultural insight, and Andean dances. Chaski has been invited to perform as the Allen Philharmonic honors Hispanic Heritage month.

December 6, 2008Christmas Traditions Around the World The Allen Philharmonic will be partnering with Friends of the Allen Public Library to present the various traditions celebrated around the world with this holiday.

January 25, 20091-4pm at the Allen Public LibraryLunar New Year Celebration The Allen Philharmonic will be partnering with the Allen Public Library Children’s department to present an afternoon of music, dance, food and customs to welcome the New Year.

February 15, 20093:00pmDallas Black Dance Theatre will present an afternoon of dance that celebrates the African American heritage of music in our society.

May 16th, 20097:00pmBeyond The Pale, Southwest Celtic Music Association member brings an eclectic mix of traditional Celtic, Americana, and contemporary styles to their music. Audience friendly and interactive, this group blends their original songs and compositions with an array of traditional dance tunes and folk songs of Ireland, America, Scotland and Europe.

May 24, 2009Memorial Day Patriotic Pops is performed in the amphitheatre of the Joe Farmer Recreation Center on Memorial Day. This program is free to the public and invites families to pack a picnic dinner and a blanket, sit on the grass and enjoy an evening of Patriotic Music as we honor our Veterans and our Servicemen and women who protect our freedom every day.
